Hampi and Badami are two historically significant places in the Indian state of Karnataka, known for their rich cultural heritage and ancient architectural marvels.

Hampi:

Location and History: Hampi is located in the northern part of Karnataka, near the city of Hospet. It was the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire from the 14th to 16th centuries, one of the greatest Hindu empires in Indian history. The ruins of Hampi today are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sprawling over a vast area amidst rocky terrain along the banks of the Tungabhadra River.

Attractions:

  • Virupaksha Temple: This temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the oldest functioning temples in India, dating back to the 7th century.
  • Vijaya Vittala Temple: Known for its iconic stone chariot and musical pillars, this temple complex is a masterpiece of Vijayanagara architecture.
  • Royal Enclosure: Includes structures like the Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables, and the Queen’s Bath, showcasing the empire’s grandeur and architectural finesse.

Day 2

Hubli – Badami – Aihole – Patadakallu – Hosapete
In the morning, we proceed to Badami, formerly known as Vatapi, which served as the regal capital of the Badami Chalukyas. Badami, along with Aihole and Pattadakal, forms a trio of UNESCO World Heritage Sites famous for their magnificent temple complexes showcasing Hindu and Dravidian architectural styles. Our first stop is the awe-inspiring Badami Caves, a complex of Hindu and Jain temples carved out of soft sandstone. These temples are supported by intricately carved stone columns and brackets, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and intricate stone carvings. After exploring the Badami Caves, we continue our journey to Aihole. Situated on the serene banks of the Malaprabha River, Aihole is known as the 'cradle of Hindu/Dravidian temple architecture'. Here, we'll discover various temple remains, each offering insights into the evolution of temple architecture in South India. Our final destination is Pattadakal, where we'll be mesmerized by an impressive series of temples, including the masterpiece 'The Temple of Virupaksha'. This temple was built by Queen Lokamahadevi to commemorate her husband's victory. Pattadakal's temples are renowned for their architectural grandeur and intricate sculptures, reflecting a blend of North Indian Nagara and South Indian Dravidian styles. Day 3

Hosapete – Hampi – Hosapete

Explore Hampi - a medieval Hindu Kingdom of Vijaynagar and also a UNESCO site. Hampi originally known as Pampa-kshetra was the Capital of Vijaynagar.  Visit monuments like Shri Virupaksha Temple, Statue of Lakshmi Narasimha, Sri Krishna Temple, Shri Vijayavitthala Temple, Lotus Mahal, Royal Palace remains, pushkarni, Elephant Stables etc. Return to Hosapete in the evening.

Day 4

Hosapete – Anegundi Village – Hubli

Proceed to Hubli. En-route visit Anegundi village previously called as KishKindha situated on the banks of Tungabhadra river and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enjoy thrilling coracle ride (subject to operation) on Tungabhadra river. Arrive at Hubali in the evening..
