Day 1 Kolkata - Gothkhali – Sunderban Tiger Camp

Morning:

  • Drive from Kolkata: Begin your journey from Kolkata Airport or Howrah Railway Station, heading towards Gothkhali Jetty. The drive covers approximately 115 kilometers and takes around 3 hours.
  • Boat Ride: Upon reaching Gothkhali Jetty, board your exclusive boat for a scenic cruise. Navigate through the rivers Gomor and Durgadhwani, eventually entering the river Pitchkhali, where the Sunderban Tiger Camp is located.

Afternoon:

  • Check-in and Lunch: Arrive at Sunderban Tiger Camp, where you will be warmly welcomed by the camp team. Check into your cottage and enjoy a hot lunch prepared with local ingredients.
  • Village Walk: Embark on an afternoon walk through the nearby village of Dayapur. Experience the essence of the Sundarbans by exploring the local lifestyle, crafts, and cuisine. Observe traditional farming methods, the distinctive mud-made houses with small entrances, and visit the village market.

Evening:

  • Return and Refresh: Head back to the resort for refreshments and some relaxation. Consider a visit to the watchtower to view the diverse birdlife in the area. Sunderban Tiger Camp hosts around 64 bird species.
  • Dinner and Movie: Enjoy a warm dinner featuring farm-fresh vegetables at the Fisherman’s Wharf dining hall. The dining hall also showcases tools used by the locals for fishing. After dinner, watch an informative movie about the tigers of Sundarbans.

Overnight:

  • Stay at Tiger Camp: Return to your cottage at Sunderban Tiger Camp for an overnight stay amidst the serene reserve forest.

Day 2 Sunderban:

Morning:

  • Breakfast and Cruise: After breakfast, set out on an exhilarating cruise towards Dobanke Watch Tower. Travel through winding creeks, dense forests, and various rivers. Enjoy breakfast onboard as you immerse yourself in the stunning natural surroundings.
  • Dobanke Watch Tower: Arrive at Dobanke Watch Tower for a canopy walk. This thrilling experience offers breathtaking views and a unique perspective of the dense forest canopy. It’s a spine-tingling adventure amidst the wilderness.

  • Return to Sunderban Tiger Camp: Head back to Sunderban Tiger Camp for a relaxing lunch. Enjoy the fresh, local cuisine in the comfort of the camp.

Post-Lunch:

  • Visit to Pakhiralay Island: Take a short boat ride of about half an hour to Pakhiralay Island. Explore the island’s natural beauty and serenity.

Evening:

  • Cultural Show – Bonbibi Yatra: Attend a local cultural performance, "Bonbibi Yatra," presented by local villagers. This traditional rural theatre features songs and dances that narrate the tale of Bonbibi, the forest goddess, and other local characters, including the tiger lord and honey collectors. The performance offers a vivid insight into the local folklore and cultural heritage.

Dinner and Overnight:

  • Dinner at Tiger Camp: Return to the camp for a delicious dinner. Enjoy the local cuisine and reflect on the day's adventures.
  • Overnight at Tiger Camp: Spend the night at Sunderban Tiger Camp, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the reserve forest.

Day 3 Sunderban Tiger Camp - Gothkhali – Kolkata

Morning:

  • Wake-Up and Tea: Start your day with the soothing sounds of chirping birds and a gentle wake-up bell. Enjoy a hot cup of tea served on your balcony, taking in the peaceful surroundings and spotting various birds in the fruit trees near your cottage.

Breakfast and Cruise:

  • Breakfast: Have a hearty breakfast at the camp, preparing for another day of adventure.
  • Morning Cruise: Embark on a morning cruise into the Sunderban Tiger Reserve. Navigate through creeks and rivers as you head towards the Sudhayakhali Watchtower.

Mid-Morning Exploration:

  • Sudhayakhali Watchtower: Upon arrival, disembark and walk through the caged walkways leading to the watchtower. This is an excellent opportunity to search for the elusive Bengal tiger and enjoy panoramic views of the reserve.
  • Wildlife Spotting: Keep an eye on the sweet water pond near the watchtower, where you might spot a deer drinking, a water monitor lizard basking in the sun, as well as monkeys and wild boars in the vicinity.

Late Morning:

  • Return to Sunderban Tiger Camp: Cruise back to Sunderban Tiger Camp for an early lunch. Relish your meal while reflecting on the morning’s sightings and experiences.

Afternoon:

  • Transfer to Gothkhali: After lunch, you'll be transferred back to Gothkhali Jetty.

Departure:

  • Return Journey: At Gothkhali, board your vehicle for the drive back to Kolkata Airport or Railway Station.
  • Arrival and Onward Journey: Arrive in Kolkata and proceed with your onward journey, concluding your memorable trip to the Sundarbans.
